The study aimed to examine the efficacy of traditional leadership in service delivery provision in rural South Africa. Specific reference is made to Motantanyane Village in the Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality in Limpopo Province. The study examines the spatial planning and arrangement of the area and whether service delivery provision and development is effectively promoted. Rural South Africa is in a peculiar situation due to its unique history and the influence the apartheid system bestowed on traditional leadership. Local municipalities, as governance structures for service delivery provision in rural areas, have faced challenges that inhibit service provision and development. Some of these issues arose as a result of the presence and practices of traditional leadership in rural landscape design. This study grounded its philosophical premise on the Great Man Theory.
