The provision of reliable clean, potable water services is key for sustainable human health and ecosystem management. However, there is growing global concern about the availability and accessibility of a potable water supply. According to the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, the lack of provision of potable water is a violation of human rights. While there is a plethora of studies in the international literature on potable water, there is a dearth of such studies in South Africa that focus particularly on provision of clean water in Hammanskraal, although this can be gleaned from scattered and uncoordinated anecdotal evidence published in the local newspapers. A qualitative research approach is employed in this study to ascertain whether potable water at Hammanskraal is a service delivery challenge or a fallacy.
