Abstract: Confronting Challenges and Seizing Opportunities Towards African Indigenous Public Administration

Public Administration as an academic discipline, a scientific field of inquiry, is over a century old, whereas public administration as an area that is operational can be traced from the earliest periods of human history. The contemporary discipline of Public Administration has not really found its feet in bringing to the fore the contributions made by African indigenous learnings and practices of public administration. Such is expected, as the roots of Public Administration are inclined towards American politicians such as Woodrow Wilson and German economist Lorenz von Stein (between 1815-1890). To this end, much of the literature on the theory and practice of P[p]ublic A[a]dministration has downplayed the contribution of the Africans, their processes and institutions in the evolution of the discipline.
