Abstract: Land reform in South Africa : looking to the future

The premise of South Africa's liberation movement was on the question of rights for black people. This was triggered by the arrival of European settlers who sought to take occupation of land through a string of wars with local ethnic groups. It was through a promulgation of the Land Act of 1913, regarding the land rights, which led to the formalisation of racial segregation. Through this Act, a meagre 13% of land was allocated to Africans. Between 1948 and 1994, the Apartheid regime of the National Party brought about an intensified segregation which sought to entrench a system of separate development with Bantustans and their leaders. This entire apartheid system consistently struggled to have legitimacy in the eyes of the black majority. The different administrations were established to serve the interest of a central regime, which was considered one of the most evil and brutal of the 20th century, similar to Nazi Germany. This
