Abstract: Why South Africa's democracy is hanging by a thread and needs urgent societal leadership intervention

For over two decades, since 1994, the ANC as the governing party served a societal leadership role and its current disintegration threatens our societal and government stability. There is no doubt about the fact that the African National Congress has sought to espouse societal political issues since its establishment in 1912 (as the South African Native National Congress). This kind of elevation was essentially demonstrated during the colonial and apartheid years (1948-1994), with the culmination of the release of political prisoners during the 1990s and the first democratic general elections. The Convention for a Democratic South Africa's (CODESA) negotiations regarding a political settlement, was an indication that most sectors of society have accepted the leading role of the ANC. There is no doubt about the immense contribution that this illustrious movement of our forefathers has made to improve the conditions of South Africa
